Volcano Poem

LI: To write a multi verse cinquain poem that describes the journey of a sleeping maunga that erupts.

We have been exploring cinquain poems. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives that describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in “ing” and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun. We used our poem to show our understanding of volcanoes. Something I found interesting about this was that it is an easy activity to do because we can use the website “Word Hippo” this is designed for more powerful word exploration tool.

Words From Yesterday

We have learnt about ww1 and the anzac also we visted the website called Walking with ANZAC. we looked through hami grace’s dairy and it was amazing, the detatils were spoke of he told us everything the future generations the things that all the many soldiers would want to read about

.  Many young soldier were injured badly/killed in action, the mothers of these soldiers had recieved the news of what happened to their loved one that were fighting in the war.

We used Google Vids to record our diary entries. I enjoyed learning about this and doing this activity allowing me to paint a image or picture in my mind of the events that were took in that time period.

Pourquoi

Long ago. One day and the present day, her name was “Maungarei. The Terminator” stood proud, she could be found in a country called New Zealand, when the world was quiet. A fierce mountain indeed had awoken from her slumber, she roars in frustration! the destruction caused was inevitable, she repents, more guilt and guilt, shame and shame was stoked upon her. She had pleaded to be ridden as her regret was like no other, The outsiders perished before the lives of families. The destruction of the: herbs, herbivores, carnivores, all blown quicker than the sand that could be shuffled by the foot of a child.

When the people and animals stumbled over her, they were ungrateful for the many good deeds she would offer. She would lose it, off the rocket I would say, her true colours flared and she was FURIOUS!. “STOP SUMBLING OVER ME, I HAVE HAD ENOUGH” Maungarei was tormented by her siblings who all despised her, she felt more and more angry that she was not noticed by her family. How would we feel? Understanding how she felt to be ridiculed for being the middle child would be worse than the eruption she would want to commit in the near future. Her anger drove the siblings, her fury roared, it echoed through the heart of New Zealand.

Why are you guys leaving?” addressed Maungarei.

You are too dangerous for us!” The town folk exclaimed. “This could be the deadly  outcome of our selfish needs.” The chief cried out.

As time passed, she soon found out how lonely she became. Her furious desires ceased, her erupting desires had died down, her aggression suppressed. Finally peace had been restored to the land, the battle’s end drew closer, the shadows lurked back to the place they came from. The people learn to be at one with her and they learn to show their gratitude for the abundant actions she had provided for the uprising of the people’s village. She was hesitant about the sudden change in the humans. But they prove worthy of her trust, her joy and heart lit in rainbows that they could finally be in unity, her depression phase releases from her heart. She lets out a sigh of solace that they could be together, her presence depletes rapidly! as if she is about to fall into a deep slumber.

Tamaki Makaurau was safe once again, her great sacrifice will be forever passed on from generation to generation. The plants bloomed, the animals were at peace, the skies hadn’t been this blue since the day she had awoken, the town folk talked about the great things of what the mountain did for them. Their gratitude is the cause of the world’s flourishing, things had taken a turn for the better. Although people had thought of this as a sacrifice action and for the greater things that would be erupting, she was surely dormant meaning one day she would awake from her sleep  this does not mean she will bring terror and destruction once again. The humans have learnt to be connected with the Maungarei.

She may be dormant now, but the awakening is near from today. She could wake up any moment, winding her up could be the death of all.

Diary WW1

LI: To retell an event in history through the fictional eyes of someone who was there

For this task I created a video and I talk about what happened during the WW1. We talked together and came up with a story to tell what was happening in the war.  We have been looking at the events that took place at ANZAC Cove on 25 April 1915, during WW1. Many of our NZ soldiers were wounded or killed in action. We looked at videos of life in the trenches, explored the Walking with ANZACs site and read Hami Grace’s diary. Doing this helped us put our own diary entries together.

We used Google Vids to record our diary entries. I enjoyed using this as it allowed me to voice over my diary and share my retell of the story in Hami Grace’s diary.  Something I found interesting about this task was that I could discover how to use Google Vids and learn about the war and what was happening.

Pepeha

LI: To let others know who I am so they can make connections to me and my place in the world.

Our challenge today was to write and record our pepeha to introduce ourselves. I found this interesting to make because I got to learn more about my ancestors, family members, I can connect to others & talk more about my culture.

PapyrusAI – The Little Red RIding Hood and Snow Whites

For this task we have been exploring PapyrusAI in writing using prompts and gaining feedback, PapyrusAI Helped us find predictions and the feedback we needed using our knowledge of two fairytales and following the prompt of  two stories mixing it together The Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White. I really liked how PapyrusAI told us what we needed to change in our story!.

Once upon a time, there were two young girls named Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood. Little Red Riding Hood lived with her mother at the edge of a gloomy forest, where tall trees blocked the light from entering. The forest was cold and damp. Her mother asked her to take a basket of freshly baked cookies to her sick grandmother and warned her not to talk to strangers. Little Red Riding Hood, confident in her path to her grandmother’s house, was unafraid of what lay in the forest. But when she stumbled upon the menacing wolf, she didn’t know what to do as he asked her many questions; feeling frightened, she quickly ran away and only felt safe once he was out of sight.

Meanwhile, Snow White lived in a castle, where her mother had passed away when she was young. Her stepmother, beautiful but very cruel, often chanted to her magic mirror, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” When the mirror replied, “You, my queen, but Snow White is more beautiful and good than you,” her stepmother became enraged. She ordered a hunter to take Snow White into the forest, kill her, and bring back her heart as proof. However, the hunter took pity on Snow White, allowing her to escape. Snow White felt sad knowing her stepmother wanted to take her life, yet she also experienced a new sense of freedom as she wandered through the forest, lonely but hopeful.

When Snow White’s stepmother discovered that Snow White was still alive, she ventured into the forest and stumbled upon the big bad wolf. Furious, the stepmother asked the wolf to help her take Snow White’s life. Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood, upon seeing a human-shaped figure and an old grandmotherly disguise, fled in fear. They found refuge in a small cottage inhabited by seven welcoming dwarves.

The stepmother and the wolf tracked them to the cottage, predicting Snow White was inside. Disguised as old grandmothers, they tried to sneak around. However, Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood saw through their plan and ran to Little Red Riding Hood’s grandmother’s house, safely delivering the cookies. They returned to their homes, managing to outsmart their foes and live happily thereafter.

Persuasive Language Feature – Writing

LI: to explore the language features of a persuasive text.

This term we have been learning about persuasive writing to help us get ready for the school speech competition later in this term. Persuasive writing is used when you want to make others think like you. Yesterday we were looking closely at the language features used in a persuasive text. I have chosen to share the persuasive language feature of XX. I think authors use this language feature to make the audience think like you so they take your side in the topic your speaking of like why we should clean the beaches of its trash etc.

2 Words 2 Minutes

2 Words 2 Minutes

Today we used the ‘2 words 2 minute’ challenge to write a description about the ancient olympics. After talking in pairs about the things we knew about the ancient  olympics and used words we already knew that would help us write our description. We chose the words ‘Greece’ and ‘athletes’ to help us think about what we were going to write.

After our 2 Minutes were up we read our text to them and they read it back we had 2 minutes to read to each other, then we had a 3 minute timer on, we wrote more stuff about the Ancient Olympics that took part in Athens located in the country of Greece

We talked about ideas with a partner, then we had 2 minutes to put those ideas into sentences. After the time was up we had 2 minutes to reread what we had written and make changes if anything didn’t make sense or if we had words and punctuation in the wrong place. When we finished checking we had 2 more minutes to carry on writing our descriptions.

Ancient Olympics – Greece 2w2m

This activity was enjoyable and fun because I learn to write faster and to write more freely and creatively.
