Researh Presentation – Reading

For reading we ba research about anything we wanted.

First I had to choose wich topic to do but first I had to do the kwl chart for what I know and what I wonder about it and what I have learnt about then introduced what my topic was of doing a slide of the all blacks

Then I picked all blacks and wrote about about players like Ardie Savea , Damian Mckenzie , Jonah Lomu , Richie Mou’nga , Sam Whitelock.

The All Blacks are one of the most successful team in my opinion, they have won 49 times making them successful,

New Zealand 145-17 Japan, 1995.

New Zealand 101-3 Italy, 1999.

New Zealand is actually is the most successful team. Players? :  Damian Mckenzie, Richie Mo’unga, Sam Whitelock, Ardie Savea, Jonah Lomu Last played 2015 18 November, Beauden Barrett, Aaron Smith, Scott Barrett, Rieko Ioane, Brodie Retalick,

Lastly I wrote about them and showed my work to my group.

I enjoyed this task because researching is fun, I need to improve on writing more, I did well at everything.

Dialogue in Wonder

This term in reading we are diving into a novel study for the book “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio.  This week we are focusing on what we can learn about the characters, especially through their dialogue.  Characters’ thoughts and feelings can be revealed through their dialogue.  This allows readers to make inferences about their internal perspectives and motivations.

Our first task was to choose dialogue from the relevant chapter and use the dialogue to infer what each of the characters’ thoughts may have been.  Here is my work :

Our second task was to imagine we are part of a welcoming committee at Beecher Prep, and create a warm and inviting poster to welcome August, the main character in the story. Our poster had to reflect the school’s values of kindness, inclusivity, and diversity.

I enjoyed this task because I got to make my own design for my welcome poster.

I need to improve on making a better design.

I did well at doing my design and my dialogue and thoughts.

Wonder – SSR Selfie

I did this task where i had to read a book and tell what happened.

First I had to read the book, then write the title the author and illustrator and main characters.

Next I wrote what was happening in the book.

Lastly i had to find three new words, but there were no new words for me.

SSR Selfie

I had to had a ssr selfie on a book called king calm.

First I had to write who the main charactar and the author or the illustrator.

Next I had to do this task by choosing and reading the book and then writing what happens in the book, this is aboiut a gorilla who went to the city with his grandpa they ate a banana.

Lastly I had to write 3 new words in my on meaning

Thump meaning – hit or strike heavily, especially with the fist.

Ferry meaning – a boat or ship they boards passengers.

Ripe meaning – fruit is right to eat

Reading – Water Is Life

I had to read a poem called water is life of water.

First I had to highlight with my reading group and we had to comment on what the words meant if they were yellow. Then wehad to choose the best word or group of words to fit the passage and put a ring around your choice. And we had to write what was happening in the first verse and the secound, and what was happening in the book. Why is the word ‘drip’ used several times in the first line? Because there is so much droplets dripping, Why do you think the author describes icicles as ‘acrobats’? Because it might be curved or shaped like one.

Next we had to answer what would you say was the main difference between the first verse and the second verse I wrote:

That the first verse was talking about droplets of water going down a window pane and breakers and the second wit sad eyes children because they had no water.

Why do you think the author ends the poem with the statement ‘Water is life!’? Because water helps people live and let’s plants grow

Lastly I had to write a poem but I couldnt so I wrote an acrostic poem i had to write it about water, I wrote:

Title :

W – Winding rivers carrying water.

A – Aquariums

T – The ocean

E – Exciting waves

R – Roaring waves

Reading – Jump

I had to do a reading task and read a book called jump its where two kids and there uncle going bungee jumping.

First we predicted what was going to happen in the book, then we had to find out where it was (Macau Tower) and what the mans doing and why the person is thinking i wish i hadn’t ate breakfast.

Next I had take a photo fo a person bungee jumping off the Macau tower and I wrote can he be scared and brave at the same time:you can’t be scared and brave at the same time because you’ll just be scared when drop you might be brave if you’re not terrified of heights.

After I put 3 photos of bungee jumpings, and wrote why and whats the scariest bungee jump place I wrote Macau tower: Macau tower because its very high because the cord might get loose and then fall after you jump off the platform. And it said why did he say he’s hard as steel, because it’s his first time on it so he’s not used to it so he’s not brave also why does matiu tell pania hard as steel, because he’s tryna be brave but inside he’s scared to jump because he just wants to show off.

Lastly I had to write why matiu said it was unfair? because he was too light so if he went he might have fallen straight through, and then I had to write a trickshot I have to use the background remover and then I to a photo from google and then took a photo of me pretending to fall off the I used backgroubnd remover and then put on the google image

Character Mind Map – Reading

In reading we had to to do a task called character mind map, we had to write the thoughts, feeling, motivations and actions.

First I had did the thoughts, I had to write what in the story the thoughts he felt during good events or moments in the story, When his dad said he was lying about the sharks he was disappointed. When the sharks were in the sea, he wanted to help them.

Next I had to describe the feelings with emojis 😰 😱 😡. Then I wrote what the actions he did to help the people not get eaten by the shark in the water.

Lastly I wrote my motivations to lead to his actions or decisions wich is helping the people in the sea to get out.

Mataki – The Choice

This book was about a boy who wanted to watch the rugby game but could not go because he had church but told his mother that he had a sore stomach.

First we had to define the words for: commitment, Manu Samoa, pretence, guilt, contestant, sneer, reluctant and vave (look for Samoan meaning). Commitment means to stick to something when you compete in games, Manu Samoa means a samoan team in rugby. Pretence means an attempt to make something that is not the case appear true, guilt the fact of having committed a specified or implied offence or crime.

contestant means to participate in a challenge, sneer means looking at someone angrily, reluctant means unwilling and hesitant; disinclined, and vave means fast.

Next we had to answer questions after we read the book we had to write what was happening in the book and predicted what the story was going to be about.

Lastly we had to rrite an alternative ending to the story where Lamb decides to attend the church talent quest instead of watching the rugby game. Explore the outcomes and how they affect Lamb’s relationship with his family and his own sense of fulfilment

Or

write a personal reflection or journal entry from Lamb’s perspective after he realises the impact of his actions on his family. Explore his feelings of regret, self-discovery, and the lessons he learns about responsibility

Haikus

Today my group learnt about haikus and its structure. Syllables, Metaphor, Simile

First I wrote what a metaphor is. A metaphor is two things that are alike. For  example:  “your jumper is maroon red” or “You look very alike to your younger brother”.

Next I wrote what syllables are, syllables are two words that are connected, For example: away, away has two words that connect by a and way. And, weekend also has two words connected by week and end making weekend.

Lastly I wrote what simile is: Similes compares two things that are alike. The writer uses the words like or as. For example “ Your puffy white jacket looks like a marshmallow “
